## Who is behind zeigmal?

zeigmal is a startup from Konstanz, Germany, founded by four computer scientists who are passionate about traveling to small towns and uncovering hidden stories and local knowledge. The company was founded in 2022 during their studies at HTWG Konstanz (Hochschule Konstanz – University of Applied Sciences).

## Why zeigmal is free

The app is funded by participating cities and municipalities in southern Germany. Each partner city commissions zeigmal to create digital content for their city, which is then made available to visitors and residents at no cost. This model allows cities to reach new audiences — especially younger, digitally-oriented travelers — while keeping the experience barrier-free.

## Key features in detail

### Audio Guides
Professional audio content created in collaboration with local tour guides (Gästeführer:innen) who share authentic stories, historical context, and insider knowledge about each city. The audio content is available in multiple languages.

### Augmented Reality (AR)
At designated AR stations in partner cities, users can point their smartphone camera at a specific building, square, or landmark. The app overlays a historical photograph precisely where it was originally captured, allowing users to visually compare past and present — a "visual time travel" experience.

### GPS Explorer Mode
Instead of following a fixed route, users can simply walk through a city. The app tracks their location via GPS and automatically triggers content (audio, images, AR) when they approach a registered point of interest. This mode is ideal for spontaneous exploration.

### Guided Tour Routes
For users who prefer structure, the app offers predefined walking routes through each city, connecting the most notable points of interest in a logical sequence.
